Obstacle Course Description

1. Competitors will start head-to-head in their lane with a short run through the trees to get to obstacle #2.

2. Log Jump (height will not exceed 20″ high).

3. Crawl under netting (approximately 10 feet long X 6 feet wide, starting at 26” high and ending at 16” high)

4. Log Jump – same as above

5. Fallen Tree Walk- Handler and dog must complete this balance beam, which will be approximately 8-10’ long,   12” wide and approximately 12” high off the ground.

6. Hay Bale Climb- Both handler and dog will climb up and over a 4’-5’ high stack of hay bales.

7. Life Vest Area- Handlers must put life vests on themselves and on their dog in this designated area. The clock will keep running during this transition.

8. Stand Up Paddle Board (SUP) section- Paddle boards and paddles (provided by event) will be staged on the sand side by side.  Competitors must secure their flotation device, get the board in the water and the dog on the board. They will then paddle approximately 35 feet out around a buoy and then paddle approximately 210 feet perpendicular to the beach to go around another buoy and then paddle approximately 40 feet back to the shore. Dog and handler will then get off the board and run across the beach back through the start/finish line. CII staff will retrieve the board and paddle.

All competitors must sign a release and bio form before practicing and competing in the course.  Release forms will be available on Thursday at the  consumer / information tent at the main field.

Award ceremony will be held on stage at the Purina Arena immediately following the event on Friday.

Competition Rules:

1. This will be a head to head competition in a single elimination bracket format on Friday morning, June 21st at 10:30 AM.  (semi-finals and finals).  If time permits we will also hold a consolation run off for third place.
2. On Thursday, June 20th at 1 PM we will hold a qualifier time trial competition to determine the top 4 spots to compete on Friday morning. The course is outlined by pennants on both sides and the course is split (2 lanes) starting at obstacle #2. You will be assigned a lane before you start. Your life jacket will be in your assigned lane.
3. Thursdays competition will be run with two teams (dog and handler) running side by side however each team (dog and handler) will be individually timed regardless of which team wins that race.  Start order to be determined.  The teams (men and women) with the four fastest times will move on to compete on Friday morning.
4. These 4 finalists will be seeded according to the fastest times from Thursday’s competition.
5. The competition will be divided into men’s and women’s division regardless of dog size. All competitors will be allowed the chance to practice the course and individual obstacles on Thursday at 11 AM prior to the time trial competition. We will go over rules and do a walk-through right at 11am. Registration and head shots will be held on the main field in the Purina Pro Plan Consumer tent at 9:30am.
6. All competitors must sign a release before practicing and/or competing.
7. Each dog and handler must fully complete every obstacle in the correct order 1-7. If an obstacle is missed or a dog or handler falls off the tree walk etc. the dog and handler have to go back and redo that obstacle before proceeding to the next obstacle. There will be contact areas on the tree walk.
8. Dogs and handlers must wear life jackets and put them on in the designated area after the obstacles and before getting on the paddle board. The clock will keep running during this transition. We will provide both handler and dog with life vests.
9. During practice it is required to size both you and your dog’s *life jackets. We will record your proper sizes and have them ready for you in your designated lane during the competition. *Life Jackets are required to compete.
10. We will provide paddle boards that MUST be used by the competitors.
11. No leashes or shock collars are allowed during competition.
12. Dogs that interfere with other dogs on the course will be disqualified and a rerun granted to the dog and handler that was *interfered with at the discretion of the judge.
    *Interference is described as impeding the forward progress of the other dog or handler. The fastest line between the obstacles is to stay inside the pennants.
13. If a dog strays outside of the pennants it will not be disqualified provided it completes all obstacles.
14. Dogs in heat are not allowed to compete and should not be brought to the site.
15. FYI most obstacles are placed on the sandy beach beside the lake.

As this is a new event, Organizers reserve the right to change, alter, or delete any obstacle at their discretion.
